The DGFT facilitated a workshop on Trade Remedies, delivered by WTO Expert Mrs. Judith Czako , in Belize from the 22nd to 24th May 2018.  The objective of this workshop was to enhance participant’s understanding of Belize’s rights and obligations under the WTO agreements, describing provisions that allow for the application of legitimate measures to be taken against unfair trade practices that can injure local industries. Areas addressed were: (i) the provisions governing the applications of anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard measures; and (ii) the procedural and substantive requirements for the imposition of these measures. The workshop provided an impetus for dialogue and considerations for developing trade remedies legislation supportive of Belize’s situation. This workshop is a result of assistance secured from the World Trade Organization (WTO) Institute for Training & Technical Cooperation to strengthen and build national technical capacity in understanding trade rules for a better execution of and responsiveness to trade policy.
